## 1. Executive Verdict

**VERDICT:** **APPROVED AFTER SPECIFIC FIXES**

The candidate branch `perf/improve-time-complexity` delivers substantial algorithmic and runtime improvements over `main`. It successfully transforms several $O(N)$ and $O(N \log N \cdot K)$ hotspots into $O(1)$ and $O(N \cdot K + N \log N)$ operations without compromising functional correctness.

However, the branch could **not** be approved in its initial state due to:
1. A genuine 2.7x HTTP regression introduced in `/manifest.json` via eager array allocations.
2. Contaminated benchmark results caused by test harness defects and asymmetric cache fixtures.
3. An undocumented mutability hazard on `getMatchesReadOnly()`.

With the targeted fixes developed and validated in this audit, the candidate outperforms `main` across synthetic, heap, and live HTTP workloads:
- **Catalog Live Sorting:** **+20.0% RPS**, **32.6% reduction in P95 latency** (29.24 ms vs 43.40 ms), **63.6% reduction in P99 tail latency** (34.65 ms vs 95.30 ms).
- **Match Lookup Streams:** **+92.2% RPS throughput** (34.4 vs 17.9 req/s), **55.9% reduction in P50 latency** (167.45 ms vs 379.80 ms), **88.3% reduction in P99 tail latency** (286.65 ms vs 2,452.51 ms).
- **Transient Memory Churn:** **99.6% reduction in object allocation churn** on catalog read paths.
- **Test Integrity:** **41 / 41 test suites passed, 602 / 602 tests passing (100% green)**.

## 3. Investigation of Initial Discrepancies & Harness Defects

### A. Synthetic Benchmark Variations
Across independent trials, synthetic speedups varied within predictable ranges:
- **Catalog Sorting:** 9.1x – 9.7x (86.7% – 89.4% faster)
- **Match Lookup:** 12.5x – 21.8x faster
- **Read-Only Database Access:** 849x – 1,490x faster
- **XOR Early-Exit:** 323x – 402x faster

**Root Cause:**
- **JIT Tiering:** V8 Turbofan optimizes comparator closures and loop unrolling after 500+ iterations.
- **Sub-Millisecond Formatting:** Earlier test scripts formatted durations using `.toFixed(2)`, causing operations taking 0.003 ms to display as `0.00 ms`, which led to perceived infinite or inconsistent speedup multiples. Updated to `.toFixed(3)` and guarded with `Math.max(ms, 0.001)`.

### B. The 0.0% vs 99.9% Heap Allocation Contradiction
Earlier reports contained a glaring contradiction: one table showed 99.9% allocation elimination, while another summary reported `0.0%`.

**Root Cause:**
1. **Harness Label Matching Bug:** In `scripts/generate-bench-report.js`, the profiler matched snapshot labels by name across branches. It compared `getMatches() Deep Clone` on `main` against `getMatches() Deep Clone` on `perf` (1.28 MB vs 1.28 MB = 0.0%). For `getMatchesReadOnly()`, `main` had no matching snapshot, so the harness defaulted to `0.0%`.
2. **Garbage Collection Masking:** `heap-profiler.js` ran `global.gc()` immediately prior to taking memory snapshots. A deep clone creates transient objects that are immediately discarded; GC immediately reclaims them. Measuring post-GC persistent heap delta hid the churn. When measuring **transient allocations without intermediate GC**, 100 reads of `getMatches()` produces **5.07 MB** of allocation churn, while `getMatchesReadOnly()` produces **0.02 MB** (**99.6% reduction**).

### C. Live Server Regressions (S1, S3, S9, S10)
Initial load runs showed Candidate RPS dropping to 14.88 (S3) and 42.28 (S9).

**Root Cause:**
1. **Fixture & Cache Asymmetry:** Candidate had 3,000 synthetic items (`nuvio_sport_football_0`, URL `http://stream.example/1/0`) left on disk from a prior heap run. Baseline was booted after `git stash`, which wiped the disk cache and triggered a live network sync that populated ~50 real events (including active UFC matches).
2. Candidate queried a dummy stream URL, which caused DaddyLive scraper to wait 6,000 ms before timing out, returning 0 streams, and negative-caching the failure. Baseline resolved live cached streams in 12 ms.
3. S10 sorted 50 matches on baseline vs 3,000 matches on candidate.
4. **Controlled Verification:** When both branches were tested with **identical 3,000 match fixtures**, Candidate outperformed Baseline: 34.4 RPS vs 17.9 RPS (+92.2%), with an 88.3% drop in P99 latency.

## 6. Audit of "10,000 Concurrent Users" Claim

**Claim:** Candidate documentation claimed validation under "10,000 concurrent users".

**Audit Findings:**
- In `tests/concurrencyStressAndIsolation.test.js`, the test fires 10,000 JavaScript Promises in an in-memory loop calling `cacheService.findMatch()`.
- This evaluates **V8 memory concurrency and object isolation under mutation** within a single Node.js thread; it does **not** simulate 10,000 concurrent TCP client sockets.
- In real-world HTTP testing on a single Node.js instance, network concurrency was sustained at **12 to 60 concurrent worker threads**, achieving **150 to 580 req/s**.
- **Recommendation:** Rename documentation references from "10,000 concurrent users" to "10,000 in-memory concurrent operations" to avoid misleading operational claims.

---

## 7. Functional Safety & Invariants

### 7.1 Mutability of `getMatchesReadOnly()`
- `getMatchesReadOnly()` returns the direct internal cache reference.
- It does **not** call `Object.freeze()`, which would incur $O(N)$ heap traversal penalties.
- In `src/catalog.js` (line 673), `mapMatchToMetaPreview` enriches `team1.logo` directly on cached objects. This mutation is idempotent and acts as a beneficial in-memory logo cache, but callers must not add arbitrary fields.

### 7.2 XOR Early-Exit Heuristic
- The 4-byte prefix check (`http` or `//`) correctly decodes standard web streams from DaddyLive, TimStreams, and Vsport.
- If upstream providers ever introduce encrypted JSON envelopes or binary container magic bytes, the check must be updated.

## 8. Final Recommendations & Rollout Plan

1. **Deploy Candidate with Manifest Patch:** Merge `perf/improve-time-complexity` with the lazy network haystack patch in `src/index.js`.
2. **Standardize Benchmark Harness:** Retain the fixes in `scripts/generate-bench-report.js` and `tests/load/scenarios.js` to prevent future false regression alarms.
3. **Monitor P99 Latency in Staging:** Verify stream resolution under live upstream DaddyLive conditions.
